When I was growing up my parents taught me to be polite. One thing that was instilled in me was that you should hold open doors for other people. It seems that I either had a strange upbringing or a weird mum and dad because other people clearly do not think in the same way…
When I go into a shop and hold a door open for someone it is unusual for them to say ‘thank you’. This is a little bit annoying but I have come up with the perfect solution!
All that you need to door in this situation is shut the door in their face. Once you have established that they are rude, simply let go of the door and allow it to close on them! It works even better on a windy day!!! Failing this (and if the victim is happy to play along) take their hand and shut the door on their fingers! This is bound to have an impact on them and they are going to think far more seriously about thanking people in the future.
Here is another little trick that I have come up with for people who insist on being rude… When you buy something in a shop, and the assistant makes you feel like you are being a nuisance for giving them your custom, pull a face at them! I have found this to be very effective and you never know quite what reaction you are going to get. Don’t make a half-assed attempt at it and simply stick your tongue out; really go for it and contort as many of your facial features as possible!!! When you have mastered this technique you can try adding to the effect by introducing sound. A good, loud ‘Duuuhhh!’, ‘Bletch!’ or ‘Uuuurph!’ works an absolute treat!
One final rant that I feel I must have is about Micrografting. I mean, why is it that we are in a society today where this is okay, and where you can ride the tube in rushhour and look around you and see about a dozen ads for different kinds of cosmetic routines. And now they are directing these ads towards barely-legal aged people. Really there is no cause why someone in thier twentys should even think about ’having to look years younger’, I mean don’t people have better things to spend thier time doing or worrying about these days? If they don’t then I really think we need to look at the primary issues
